David Epstein

It’s a new week and a new month, that means there are 5 things event organizers need to know for this week. In case you miss it, here’re 5 news updates from last week, and from July 20th.

1. 3 Steps To Recovering From An Unsuccessful Event

Michael Jordan lost 300 games in his basketball career – and he’s widely considered to be the greatest basketball player of all-time. Similarly, even the greatest event organizers will be involved in planning a few duds.

To recover from these experiences, it’s important to stay positive, while being honest with yourself about why the event wasn’t successful. Moving forward, make sure to define success so you will know for sure if your event was a success.

It’s also important that event organizers learn how to respond to negative attendee feedback so that event attendees will feel like their input is valued. Via Event Manager Blog

3. San Francisco Travel Association Partners With Airbnb

The San Francisco Travel Association is embracing the power of technology to help local event planners find accommodations for out-of-town attendees. 4. New Study Finds Meetings Industry Is Growing In Africa

According to a report from American Express Meetings and Events division, the meetings industry is growing in Africa. Egypt, Morocco and South Africa have seen the most growth in the meetings industry thanks to improved infrastructure developments in those countries.

5. Want To Create More Interactive Events? Engage Attendees Through Their Smartphones

Technology is the key to creating more engaging events. Attendees simply will not switch off their mobile devices. Instead, event organizers must create an event experience that attendees can engage with on their smartphones, tablets and computers.

To do this, event organizers must first ask for cooperation from event speakers and sponsors. Then, they must promote their event networking platform to make sure attendees are using it. Finally, don’t try to defeat the multi-taskers who sit in a keynote session and reply to work emails at the same time. It’s become an unavoidable fact of modern day events. Via Successful Meetings
